Recently, the national finals of the China International University Students' Innovation Competition (2025) concluded successfully at Zhengzhou University. Our college's project, "Intelligent Cultivation with Green Films: Ushering in a New Era of Ultra-thin, Multi-functional, and Fully-Biodegradable Mulch Films," successfully stood out from numerous outstanding competing projects across the country and won the gold medal in the Higher Education Main Track (Graduate Student Creative Group). This achievement marks a historic breakthrough for the college in winning the gold medal in the main track of this event!

The current innovation competition, themed "Dare to Venture, Able to Innovate," attracted a total of 6.19 million projects and 24.43 million participants from 5,673 schools in 161 countries and regions worldwide. Our college's project of "Intelligent Cultivation with Green Films" was led by Song Yizhao, a doctoral student in the class of 2024, and guided by the team of Professor Xu Jing. The project actively responded to the national call for green agricultural development and addressed the "bottleneck" problems of high cost and poor performance of fully-biodegradable mulch films, successfully breaking through four key technologies: ultra-thin toughening, high water resistance, controllable cycle, and long-term pest and disease resistance. It has developed high-performance fully-biodegradable mulch film masterbatches and a series of mulch film products with a thickness of only 6 microns, providing support for the green and sustainable development of agriculture and the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy.

In recent years, our college has taken innovation and entrepreneurship education as an important approach to talent cultivation, adhering to the concept of "promoting learning, teaching, and innovation through competitions." Focusing on key areas such as green development and carbon neutrality, the college has achieved a steady improvement in the scale of participation, the level of awards, and the quality of achievements, A new pattern of competition-based education has been formed, characterized by "full - staff participation, full - process cultivation, and comprehensive success." In the future, the college will further leverage its professional and disciplinary advantages, make full use of the “rapid transformation channel from the laboratory to the market” established by the competition, promote the in-depth integration of teaching and practice and the precise alignment of scientific research and industry. It will strive to cultivate a group of outstanding talents with both scientific literacy and practical abilities, injecting strong impetus into the university's efforts to become a Double First-Class Universities.
