In order to enhance the interdisciplinary integration and innovation ability, promote the deep cross-integration of chemistry and agriculture, and help the construction and high-quality development of the double first-class of the university, on December 17, the Nanomaterials, Carbon Dots, Optical Agriculture  Chemistry + interdisciplinary academic salon co-sponsored by the Science and Technology Department of the University and the College of Chemistry and Material Science was held in Conference Room 811 of the Liberal Arts and Science Building of Daizong Campus. Professor Zhang Xianxing and Professor Mi Qinghua of Shandong Agricultural University attended the event. Professor Lei Bingfu and Associate Professor Li Wei of South China Agricultural University, Professor Li Pinghua from the College of Agriculture of Shandong Agricultural University, and Professor You Chunxiang from the College of Horticulture made Conference theme reports. The event was presided over by Xu Jing, Dean of the College of Chemistry and Material Science.

At the meeting, Lei Bingfu elaborated on the multifunctional application of carbon nanomaterials in crops, pointing out that carbon dots show great potential in improving crop photosynthesis; Li Wei presented the application of fluorescent carbon dots in photosynthesis and plant labeling. Li Pinghua introduced the photosynthetic regulation mechanism of maize, and put forward the related needs of using nanomaterials to improve the photosynthesis and optimize the growth shape of maize. You Chunxiang introduced the applications of nanomaterials to fruit quality improvement, and introduced the work by Associate Professor Zhang Shuai of the College of Chemistry and Material Science who joined the team at the end of 2018 and successfully developed nano light fertilizers to improve photosynthetic efficiency, nanomaterials to regulate the quality of apple fruits, and nanocarriers for nucleic acid molecule delivery, etc., focusing on the cross-integration of chemistry and horticulture.

Xu Jing presented the concluding remarks that interdisciplinary research is an emerging trend of scientific research innovation, and it is necessary to take full advantages of the college in the preparation and performance regulation of functional small molecules and nanomaterials in order to closely focus on the actual needs of Shandong Agricultural University to strive for the double first-class, and to continuously cultivate new discipline research points in cutting-edge and interdisciplinary disciplines. The college will strive to make significant achievements to help construct a first-class agricultural university.

Vice Dean of the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Li Peiqiang, and more than 100 teachers and students from related fields also participated in the event.
